We sailed down the Rhine overnight and arrived at the Duseldorf pier around 10am. We were to arrive around 930 am, but the water levels are continuing to drop and the ship had to slow considerably. This part of Europe is no experiencing the heat wave that enveloped everyone last week but it was sunny and HOT today.
We explored Cologne today along with the Cathedral. Construction began in 1248 halted around 1560 and was completed according to the medieval plans in 1880. It is one of the structures that survived bombing during WWII. It became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1996. While there, we lit a candle for Tom and said a quiet prayer.
Following our visit to the Cathedral we had gelato while waiting for our bus. It was a little over an hour bus ride back to the ship …. Due to the sensitive nature of things that may or may not have happened on the return bus ride, I’ll leave it there …. 🤢
Tonight, we recovered from our days excursion and enjoyed a nice quiet dinner and a magic show.
Tomorrow, we change ships and will be basically bussed from one port to another, so bags are packed and ready to go – always an adventure, I guess!
