June 14 – Day 19 – Akureyri, Iceland

More sunshine?☀️ 😉

Today, we are on a 7 hour tour beginning with a stop at Godafoss Waterfall.

Then lunch at Fosshotel Mývtan overlooking a spring fed lake (this is what our guide said, but I cannot find anything to confirm that it is indeed spring fed😂) – Mývtan. Lots of midges starting to appear, so no spending a lot of time outside 🥴

The lava field in front of the hotel is only 300 years old.

Namafjall Hverir was our next stop – every time I visit something like this, I always think of the Wizard of Oz and the wicked witch – as she is melting, Glenda the good witch says “oh, what a smell of sulfur” 🤣

Observation/realization of the day: The poorer English someone speaks, the more they talk 🤪

Visit to the lava field, Dimmuborgir, was interesting -some are George’s pictures and because it’s 10pm and I’m trying to get this completed, I may or may not not label … astronauts trained here because of the landscape similarity to the moon and Mars.

Next came the craters …

Pictures were not uploading last night, hence the late post …a few more random shots from the day.

This is a scattered post, but we had a late night. There is a duo cellist and flautist on board that is AMAZING, so trying to catch them when they play. Will try to remember to record them!

  1. Thank you for the Icelandic horse pictures. Loved the lunar landscapes. When one sees the landscape, one can kind of understand the troll mythology. Fascinating!
